Case Study: Bat Removal from an Attic

Hingham MA Bat Removal Project

On a recent bat removal call in Hingham Massachusetts we found bats entering the roof of the house in multiple locations. They were entering under loose chimney flashing around the base of the chimney. In the first picture below you can see the large amount of bat guano that accumulated under the flashings as a result of the bats using this area. We also found the bats using a faulty ridge-vent. As the pictures illustrate the ridge vent was left wide open by the roofers and that allowed the bats to gain access. The pile of bat guano is in the attic directly beneath the active opening in the ridge vent. We also found bats roosting behind the rake-boards on the outside of the house. We were able to remove these bats by hand and even photographed one of them on the ground. We successfully completed this job in early October 2006. The bats were still very active and hadn't even started to think about hibernation yet.
